Sound Words vs. Smooth Words
Proverbs 6:20-7:27 What should I know? What do we all need, especially the young? For the commands of God to be taught and applied by the words of older generations and kept close as his or her meditation. The benefits of the teaching: light and life (Mt. 6:21-23). The benefits of light and life: preservation from wrong desires. The upcoming adulterous situation, therefore, is a prime example of how we are led away by our own desires (1 Jn. 2:15-17; James 1:14-15). Verse 26: The cost is high. Verses 27–28: The outcome is obvious. The investment is a perverse reverse: Instead of (1) giving up a desire for (2) a sevenfold return, this sin (1) gives in to a short-lived desire to (2) “gain” a sevenfold disaster. Further, for the one who steals food for hunger, people allow some counterbalance to their anger. The adulterer “lacks sense” even more because the response will not balance vengeance with pity. What should I do? 1. Fight false intimacy with true intimacy. 2. Make wisdom the one who knows you intimately, your whole life biography. 3. Visual markers, the feeling of “having already started,” and the prospect of some “otherworldly experience” can kill. Sin has no politeness or obligation to kill only those who knew it was coming. 4. “Now you know!” What is the Ultimate Love I Long For? 1 Corinthians 6:13-20. Be Joined with Christ!
