Matthew 25:1-30
A. The parable focuses, not on the entirety of the kingdom, but on its day of appearing.
B. The already/not yet sense of the kingdom of heaven is part of God’s plan.
Already / not yet =
Much will happen while the Appearing comes that helps to preview it—not only “predicting” its outcome but literally being part of what the outcome will be.
C. Everything in the event “turns” on the presence of a person.
D. Jesus teaches that urgent arrival and ongoing delay are both part of his return.
1. Christians must be both ready for a party and prepared for delay.
We must use Jesus’ words for our preparation and then live in that preparation during the predicted delay.
2. Preserve and cultivate your faith for the moment of Christ’s return.
“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Never use the delay of his coming as an excuse for laziness, whether in watchfulness or in work.
3. You want to be found by Christ watchfully working.
Faith has feet, and loyalty shows love.
