The Principle of Faith Preserves the Nature of Grace
Romans 4:13-16 Observations and Applications 1a. The prominence of promise creates the principle of faith. 1b. Law speaks to you clearly, but in Promise’s story. A Greek verbless clause: “The promise… not out of law… but out of the righteousness of faith.” 2a: The faith-principle is overthrown, if we inherit through law of any kind. 2b. You will inherit God’s promises, according to belief in God. If the promise is of Grace, then faith can be the only instrument to receive it. “I’m so thankful for the active righteousness of Christ.” -Edmund Clowney 3a. Law, in principle, clarifies rules, and provides a system, both for condemnation and wrath. Promise + Faith + (-Law) = Grace! Grace is God’s unmerited favor on undeserving sinners. Every other religious program is “some nuanced way” of getting me out of the undeserved category and into the deserving category. When you understand the permanent principle of faith, your soul can finally be comforted and emboldened with true courage in Christ.
