Love, of God and from God
1 John 4:7-12 1. Love. What is commanded? A. Loved ones are commanded to love. What is sensible? B. Loved ones logically should love. What is natural? C. Loved ones must send out the kind of love they received. What is the goal? D. Loved ones become more like God in their love. Your Love: Cause: “Beloved,” You have been taken in by God’s love. Object: You must love the very ones God loved. Power: Love’s origin and nature is in God. Destination: Those who are born-again love like God loves. 2. God’s character of love was shown by the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus. 3. Though not full, true godly love “tests positive” for a case of discipleship. By absorbing our justly-deserved wrath and giving his innocent life, Christ showed a love that had never yet been seen. 4. The church and her love is the gospel made visible. John 1:18; 6:46 John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
