The Character of the Near Kinsman
Ruth 2:14-23 The Figure in Ruth 1a. “Full Access” is a family relationship. Matt. 11:28-39 “Thomas Goodwin said, ‘Christ is love covered over in flesh.’ Picture it. . .If compassion clothed itself in a human body and went walking around this earth, what would it look like? We don’t have to wonder.” Ortlund, Gentle and Lowly 2a. Identify God’s providence in the day-to-day; praise him with intention and purpose. “And her chance chanced upon = Blessed be the Lord!” 3a. Ruth is faithful in “the day of small things.” The Fulfillment in Christ 1b. Trust the Redeemer, the Husband of good character. “Adoption as sons” / “Bride of Christ” 2b. The “crucified one” is in charge. The Doctrine of Christ’s Session Acts 5:31; Heb. 2:17; Rom. 8:34; Eph. 2:4-7 Gal. 4:4-7; Act 5:31; Heb 10:12 What a comfort is the character of the Redeemer! 3b. Redeem the time by “watching how you walk.”
