Bad Clay and the Master Potter: How God Works Salvation and Judgment Well

Romans 9:14-29 1. God is righteous, no matter what. It is not unjust to give gifts freely, indiscriminately. By definition, a free gift depends on the kindness of the giver, not any workings of the receiver. 2. Unrepentant sinners have a purpose in God's economy as well. Ex. 7:3; Ex. 9:13-16 God hardened Pharaoh by holding by withholding his own hand of judgment until the proper time. 3. God's power aught to be revealed. Job 42:1-6 Those who oppose the display of the true God's true character are idolaters. 4. You cannot resist God's will. Is. 29:16; 45:9 5. God has ordained his own patience. 6. God is taking gentiles to himself, just the way he brought in the Jews. Hos. 2:17-23; 1 Pet. 2:8-10; Is. 10:22-24 There are two kinds of people in the world: those who find God's mercy understandable and his judgment outrageous and those who find God's mercy outrageous and his judgment understandable. 7. God is hardening those Jews who rebel against him, just as he always has done.
