Meek or Weak? The Opinions of Clashing Kingdoms

Matthew 5:5 Too often in our politics, we want to ask and answer who gets to in- herit the earth. 1. What does it mean to be meek? Meekness = Phil. 2:3-4; 1Pet. 2:21-23; Col 3:12; Num. 12:3 Power is (1) necessary and (2) can be good; Meekness applies power gently. -Our sin nature means that we want to spread power around to various people. -On the other hand, creation’s very nature means that power will always exist. How do I get this heart of meekness? a. Know who you are b. Know where you came from c. Know where you are going 2. What does it mean to “inherit the earth”? Psa. 37:11 3. How do meekness and the Kingdom combine? Meekness and the kingdom combine in Christ. Meekness means not settling the score. We will have to refer those troubles to our King. Meekness is the best way to conquer and melt the heart of an enemy. . . . Where meekness is lacking-we are like brutes. Where it is present-we are like Jesus. - Thomas Watson, 1660
