A Curious Christmas: The Prophets’ Curiosity and the Church’s Confidence

1 Peter 1:10-12 The Flow of the Letter Peter celebrates God’s full and perfect salvation for the church, linking it to the whole of history, and to the church’s unfolding holiness. Observations Why did the prophets inquire? 1. Because the salvation was full and extensive. Salvation as a term =massively extensive term or very specific 2. Because clear, special reception of grace was coming. The same grace; different manner of receiving and blessings attending it 3. Because a definite person and time mattered. 4. Because Christ’s lowliness and exaltation are internally compelling. The word of Christ was full enough to spark faith and spare enough to spark curiosity. The prophets served you; they laid unmistakable guides, which both led you to witness God’s work occurring and serve as evidence of its truth. Application A. Rest in the grandeur of God’s salvation. B. Respond to your specific point of “salvation’s pressure.” C. Trust the Bible and take it seriously. D. Alter your view of world history. E. Enliven your view of the cosmos
