“Christ, The Maker and Firstborn of Creation”
Colossians 1:15-20 1. In Christ, we know what God is like. The earliest church had a “high Christology.” a. Intimacy eikon / εἰκὼν: b. Participation We are brought into the pattern, sustained by the life, part of the drama, and folded into the joy of the Triune God! (2Pet. 1:4) 2. Jesus can unlock blessings for you that are beyond you. Rev. 5:2-5 Jesus inherits what is beyond you on your behalf, so that you can then bring all of what actually is fit to you for his glory. 3. As the Creator, Christ is the best inheritor. transcendent immanent 4. All things, all dominions, all powers were made through Christ, and for Christ. “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ . . . does not cry, Mine!” -Abraham Kuyper 5. Just as no human body can exist without its head, so the church cannot exist, without being united to the source of all of its intention and guidance. 6. Exalting the head, Christ, glorifies the body, the church. Is Christ preeminent in your life?
