Jesus Crushes the Serpent: How Christ Uses a Discerning and Obedient Church

Romans 16:17-20 1. Churches watch for divisive teaching. A Brief Theological Overlook Heresy and the Development of Doctrine Teaching that divides “in accord with what you have been taught.” 2. Avoidance is the primary instrument against persistent dividers. 1 Tim. 1:3; 6:3; also 2 John 10 -Do you guard your steps? -What pathways frequently take you into sound doctrine? -Do you have teachers that you know now to avoid? 3. Additionally, study -the carnal appetites of others -the nature of Christ’s ministry -smooth rhetoric -sound doctrine 4. The momentum of obedience is a practical guide. “wise” and “innocent” = skilled/unskilled, accurate/erratic 5. Christ is with you and winning for you. The church is the means by which Jesus accomplishes ancient prophecy.
