Christ’s Kingdom Purifies Believers
Matthew 5:8 We have come to the beatitude that feels the most demanding! 1. What Jesus demands from the world is what only God can demand from the world. If you try to live by the righteousness that can be produced in human moral factories, the Sermon on the Mount hits you over and over. 2. You need a better righteousness. A. What does it mean to be pure in heart? B. Can anyone be pure in heart? C. Are there other examples of people in the New Testament who are? D. How is being pure in heart related to the resulting blessing? A. Purity means moral cleanness. B. Purity of heart is given as a gift in the gospel. Heb. 7:26; Matt. 23:26 “The very first tear he made was do deep that I thought it had gone right into my heart.” Eustace from “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” Heb. 10:22; Titus 1:15; 2Pet. 1:5-9; 2Pet. 3:14-15 C. Purity of the heart requires simplicity. James 1:27 D. Purity of heart connects all good goals to God. Meet all responsibilities, maximize all additional mercies, and glorify God in everything. Everything good in God’s creation ultimately leads back to the Creator himself; take that road and give him glory! Seeing God’s face is both the means of purity of heart and the reward from purity of heart.
