The Sympathetic Spirit... and the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:26-27 1. Your patience visually expresses the stored-up hope of God. Promises that are real and “off-stage” are still visible in the confidence of the characters on stage. ἐλπίς/elpis: ὑπομονή/hupomone: 2. The Spirit “likewise” bridges the span to connect us to our hope. Absent hope 3. The Spirit matches the needs of a human spirit to the ends of God’s sovereign future. συναντιλαμβάνομαι/sunantilambanomai: Ex 18:22; Ps 88:22; Lk 10:40. -Our knowledge of “what it is necessary to pray” is connected to our coming hope. -As our knowledge of our coming hope increases, so does the strength and fittingness of our prayers. -Since our knowledge of the future hope never is full (and always limited to what is revealed by God) all Christians still need and receive these intercessions of the Spirit. 4. The Spirit manifests our inward thoughts in judgment. The searching one finds within you the Spirit who manifests you. 5. God the Spirit is in your soul and on your side. The Spirit “converses” on behalf of believers.
