“I Do Not Condemn You”: Justification in Christ

Romans 8:1-4 1. Broken sinners can be “in Christ.” -“with my mind” & “with my flesh” (7:25) -“in Christ” (8:1) Without union with Christ, you would not be declared right by God. 2. While you are a sinner—no condemnation! simul iustus et peccator -Heroes of the faith inspire us to work for the joy of the kingdom and give us examples of how frail humans can produce the fruit of the Spirit. -If you look at a hero of the faith and think “that is the kind of person who can be righteous,” you have misunderstood the gospel. No condemnation now I dread / Jesus and all in Him is mine 3. What the Spirit will do for you stands on what the Father and Son have done. The “finishing work” of the Spirit is because of your freedom, not for it. 4. God condemned sin. dikaioma = The law’s requirement is fulfilled by Christ in people characterized by a walk in the Spirit.
