Big God Theology
Romans 11:25 1. Don’t wander from your mission because so many Jews wander from the Messiah. What would you expect? The Sufficiency of Scripture: “God’s word written provides all things necessary for life and godliness.” “a partial hardening” = 2a. Because of God’s purpose in the gospel, we know that Jewish reaction is part of the outward force by which salvation is scattered to all nations. 2b. Because of God’s purposes in election towards the fathers, we know that God’s election of some Jews during each age is part of his promise. Disobedience is necessary for us to know our true need. 3. The “Self-discovery” of disobedience is part of the pathway to the good news. The liberating paradox: 4. God doesn’t “owe” anyone anything. 5. God will not just be investigated and considered; he must be contemplated and celebrated.
