The Good News about Sin: Righteous Wrath and Righteous Life
Romans 1:18-23 Observations 1. The revealing of righteousness saves from the revealed wrath. The contrasting kinds of action: revealing wrath, suppressing truth. -In this action, we see the opposite of “on earth as it is in heaven.” -“Against” this rebellion, “from heaven” wrath is revealed. Active Judgment & Passive Judgment 2. Truth suppression + knowledge = responsibility. 3. God is not trying to hide. 4. We should not be rebels because we can see that . . . -God is a good Creator. -He is in charge of what he makes. -His creation and our place in it is a blessing. 5. With the light of our eyes dimming, we foolishly exchange the Creator for the creation. Application 1. Are you learning what God has revealed? 2. Check your sin; check your shame. 3. Delight in God!
