The Sheer Grace of Hardening
Romans 11:7-24 1. God may harden you by giving you what you want. What if the Jews have success in a “righteousness based on law”? -What does it mean to harden or dull? 2. God uses what we want for purposes higher than we know. -Gospel preaching to those who hate it makes them harder. The darkness of Israel and the light on the Gentiles naturally correspond in a new phase of salvation history. 3. The acceptance of believers “provokes unbelievers.” What kind of “gospel inclusion” will provoke those around you? Whenever you see what God does through the bad, rejoice also at the great things he does through his redeeming goodness. 4. We all are made holy by Israel’s Messiah. Respect for the roots always postures the Christian properly. 5. God has the power to save (and surprise!).
