Colossians 4:12-18 1. A local church is more than the sum of its parts. Overlook #1: Congregationalism: The church is served by deacons, led by elders, and governed by the congregation. Recommendation can be outsourced; accountable action cannot. 2. Christians, in every age and place, will find each other, know each other, and support each other. Christians have an identity, a calling, a way of thinking, and a mode of life that assures us and insulates us in changing times. 3. The church has always been devoted to reading and teaching as public gatherings. Overlook #2: The Inspiration of Scripture 4a. We must hold each other up in our callings for Christ. 4b. Pursue your calling, not distracted by its outcomes. 5. The New Testament letters have the signature of authenticity. Overlook #3: The authenticity of the NT letters 6. The church stands with those in chains for Christ. Don’t overestimate your persecution. Don’t underestimate your persecution. We do not rely on fortunate events but definite grace.
