Redeemed in a New Son
Ruth 4:13-17 1. God gives what you can’t make. The Lord gives… Consider the many kinds of idolatry in our hearts. Consider how many other “explanations“ guide our worship when we receive a good thing: “Well, of course…” “That’s just the way it is.” “You must be livin’ right.” “God is pleased with me.” “I deserve this.” a. The mystery and gift of life is the perfect example of the many ways, hard to perceive, that God provides what we could not. b. In the biblical story line, conception and birth also point to the way God has chosen to destroy sin and save his people. 2. God redeems what you can’t redefine. 3. God counts for you what you can’t fix. 4. God plans for what you can’t foresee. Note: “Redeemer” and “restorer of life” are too big for mere human ability. “Servant” sums up what the women think has been done in this son. Serve in divine purposes bigger than you. “Who are you?”
