The Longest Blessing
Psalm 118 1. Give thanks to the Lord for his character and for his actions. Thanks to God from -Israel, who wrestled with God (Gen. 32:22-32). -Aaron, whose line of priests needed substitution themselves (Lev. 9). -All who give ultimate respect to God. 2. Praise always (1) declares something as true and (2) as “good for me.“ 3. The victory itself is having God himself on your side. 4. God’s help is still according to his plan, not ours. Behind God’s visible plan, we know always that he is purifying and disciplining us. Gospel-shaped faith in the OT: -Ask God to save. -Bless his messenger beforehand. -Emphasize his sustaining gifts. -Prepare to worship him in a festival -Claim him as your own God.
