Confidence Toward the Coming Judge

1 John 2:28-29 1. Stay. Keep going. Walk. Abide with Christ. A. Repetition God knows that we human beings, fickle and frail, need some things repeated over and over again. 2. All humans are limited; the humble ones, accept and enjoy the reminders and repetition that comes along with it. B. Remaining John’s command is literally the simplest command possible. Stay. Brothers and sisters, stay in the boat (Acts 27:31). 1Cor. 1:30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 3. Jesus is coming! The coming of Christ, the fact that he will return is not in dispute. We don’t say if but simply when he comes. Do you question your confidence when the judge comes? What is inside us will never provide confidence. Confidence is given from what is outside. The hands that will open the books of every deed done (2Cor. 5:10), every idle word spoken (Matt. 12:36-37), will also open the book of life (Rev. 3:5) – and they are pierced hands. “You added nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.” - Jonathan Edwards 4. The coming judge is righteous and gives birth to children who practice righteousness.
