Do You Need a Cup of Cold Water?
Matthew 10:40-42 1a. Receiving God the Son is receiving God the Father. 1b. Receiving the Jesus’ messengers is receiving God the Son. A: Jesus is God. B: The people of Christ must receive the messengers of Christ. We find a sweet fruit in those who love the church not just in spite of but because of the fact that it’s made up of weak and broken sinners. Two very practical points: I. People who love Christ, love his bride; II. People who love Christ’s bride, gather with that bride to praise the Lord and hear from his word. 2. Christ’s identity gives identity to the messenger and the one receiving the message. Brother and sister in Christ: you are God’s reward to me today. 3. The one who receives a Christ-bearing person receives rewards of Christ. “Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it” 4. By whom you receive you say something about yourself. Part of the miracle of Christ’s kingdom is that needy people meet needs. Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread. D.T. NILES 5. Your salvation and protection come from your ascended Lord.
