“Though He Slay Me” : Faith Like A Child

Job 13-14 1. We should not “plead God’s hard cases” (13:1-12). -Avoid inferiority to men. -Employ inferiority to God. Employ understanding for what God has given to be known; Employ trust for what he has not. 2. The key to the universe is the character of God (13:13–15). 3. Sin is the reason you have so much sorrow—and the reason that you yourself cannot put God on the defensive (13:16-28). -So, am I “godless” or not? -Am I “innocent” or not? 4. True wisdom does not obscure, but reveals, the mess of life (14:1) Life is so messy that dying and rebirth would be the best way to make it fresh; alas, there is more hope for the sprig of a tree trunk than a man! 5. Innocence and guilt, wisdom and foolishness are so enfolded in our lives that they cannot be untied or sorted. Only death resolves the frayed ends of our broken lives and only re-creation renews our hope (14:2-22). Job thinks in two pathways: Either God has to leave us alone and let us live a few nice days or he must yearn for us and call for us after we return to the dirt (reenacting creation). -Through poetry and prophecy, resurrection is here predicted. -Through the passion and resurrection of Christ, it is shown, guaranteed, and made beneficial to you. 5. Putting your trust in Christ turns your death into nothing but a seed planted in the ground (John 12:24).
