Clearing the Temple, Installing a Throne
Matthew 20:29-21:17 1. The authority of Jesus is comprehensive and self-authenticating. 2. Do not just be part of “Jesus’s crowd”; call on him for mercy. John 6:65-69 3. Mercy and authority go together. 4. The Lord is lowly. “Is this change of authority going to be a positive for me?” What a joy, what a relief, to know that the holy Lord is lowly. Zech. 9:9-12; Psalm 8:2. Psalm 8 reveals the Creator God and that the creator God has planned not to be praised just by the most powerful and professional but out of the mouths of babes in infants. 5. You either receive Jesus or you reject him and those who reject him grow ever farther from those who receive him. 6. An awareness of your need goes together with reading the Bible rightly. Isaiah 66:2b: But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word. Jesus fulfills every office and meets every need. This Prophet, Priest, and King is full of pity, love, and power.
